Chaos in Afghanistan. Covid numbers spiking. Mask mandates. Vaccine mandates. Hurricane Ida. Division in our Congress. In our cities. In our schools. In our homes.
Where does it end?
Some say it ends with Jesus returning to set things right. Could it be?
I've been reading a fascinating book about God's judgement on Israel back in 732 B.C. The story is in the book of Isaiah, Chapter 9, verses 8-11:
The Lord sent a word against Jacob,
and it fell on Israel;
and all the people knew it—
Ephraim and the inhabitants of Samaria—
but in pride and arrogance of heart they said:
“The bricks have fallen,
but we will build with dressed stones;
the sycamores have been cut down,
but we will put cedars in their place.”
So the Lord raised adversaries against them,
and stirred up their enemies....
"In pride and arrogance of heart." The Israelites were warned by God to turn away from their evil ways, but they didn't listen. Soon their enemy attacked and destroyed their buildings and even the trees. But instead of repenting and turning to the Lord, the people stood in defiance and arrogance and vowed to build back bigger and plant even stronger trees. Could it be that America is just like that today-- trusting in our own abilities instead of seeking God?
It's a lot to think about.
Until next time,
Toni
